Edward VI Timeline and Biography

12 October 1537: Edward was born at Greenwich Palace in London. His mother, Jane Seymour, died twelve days afterward giving birth to her son from puerperal fever

His sisters, the Princess Elizabeth and Princess Mary are declared bastards
 

1547 The Earl of Hertford to serve as Lord Protector of the Realm and Governor of the King's Person during his minority. The age of minority was reached at the age of eighteen
 

1549 Thomas Seymour plotted against Edward and was executed on 20th March 1549
 


8 August 1549: the French, under Henry II, formally declared war on England but peace was soon agreed in 1550

Edward was a devout Protestant and in 1549 introduced a uniform Protestant service in England based on his Book of Common Prayer
 


1552
Edward Seymour was deposed by John Dudley, 1st Earl of Warwick, and executed in January 1552
 


1553 John Dudley arranged for the marriage of his son to Guildford Dudley to Lady Jane Grey. John Dudley then persuaded the sickly Edward to name Lady Jane Grey as his heir. Princess Mary and Princess Elizabeth had both been declared illegitimate

The young king Edward becomes increasingly ill and it is rumoured that John Dudley cruelly prolonged the illness of Edward, who was in excruciating pain, in order to prepare for the succession of Lady Jane Grey
 

6 July 1553 : The young King Edward VI dies of tuberculosis leaving the throne to 'the Lady Jane Grey and her heirs male.' She was Queen for just 9 days and replaced by the rightful heir Queen Mary I

Mary I Timeline and Biography

1516 Mary the daughter of King Henry VIII and Queen Catherine of Aragon was born in Greenwich. Mary later became Queen Mary I aka "Bloody Mary" (1516 - 1558)

1534 Catherine of Aragon was moved around different castles in England and separated from her daughter Mary, due to her obstinate refusal to accept the annulment of her marriage. Mary Tudor was not allowed to see her mother

1534 The title of Princess Mary was reduced to the Lady Mary. And Bloody Mary Tudor was declared a bastard.

1536 January 7Catherine of Aragon, the mother of Bloody Mary dies at Kimbolton Castle


19th July 1553 Lady Jane Grey was deposed as Queen and Mary Tudor, daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, is finally proclaimed Queen of England

12th February 1554 Lady Jane Grey and her husband Guildford Dudley were executed at the Tower of London under the orders of Bloody Mary

1554 July 25Philip of Spain ( who would become King Phillip II of Spain) marries Queen Mary I ( Mary Tudor) of England. Mary was eleven years older than Philip


1554 Queen Mary Tudor returns England to Roman Catholicism

1554 Protestants are persecuted and 300 are burnt at the stake (in later times this leads to Queen Mary I, Mary Tudor, being called Bloody Mary)

1556 England under Mary Tudor loses Calais, the last English possession in France

17 November 1558 Queen Mary I dies on November 17, 1558 at St. James's Palace
